The Bulgarian opera singer Joana Zhelezcheva is one of the most sought-after lyric-dramatic sopranos in her home country.

Joana Zhelezcheva began her professional career as a mezzo-soprano at the stage of the National Opera and Ballet in Sofia, taking part in performances of "André Chenier", "The Wedding of Figaro", ''Carmen","Faust", "Otello" and "Macbeth".

Later, as a lyric-dramatic soprano, she became a laureate of the Puldin contest in Plovdiv, the "Hristo Brambarov" vocal competition in Sofia and "Ghena Dimitrova" in Pleven. 

In 2007 she debuted in the Burgas State Opera as Amelia in Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera" and was immediately invited to become a member of the theater ensemble. 

She has debuted since then in numerous spinto-dramatic soprano principal roles such as Butterfly from "Madama Butterfly", Manon Lescaut, Tosca,  Elisabeth (Don Carlo), Lady Macbeth(Macbeth), Leonora (Il Trovatore), Aida (Aida), odabella (Attila), Santuza in Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana", Liu from Puccini's Turandot, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Norma (Bellini).

Joana has performed with great success in many national and international opera festivals and is recognized as one of the leading Bulgarian sopranos in the lyric-dramatic repertory.
